Marimari
Evelyn Kunda is a subsistence farmer, teacher, a human rights defender, and the only woman from her village who doesn’t believe that she is surrounded by witches. Marimari takes the audience into the villages, towns, and urban slums of Highlands Papua New Guinea where Evelyn fights to rescue and rehabilitate the survivors of sorcery violence. In the face of an almost ubiquitous belief in sorcery, this moving and cinematic, verité style film intimately observes Evelyn as she assists three families struggling to put their lives back together following violent attacks.
